Main features
- High-Green-Strength Assembly Bonding
- Non-Sag Gap-Filling Application
- One-Part Moisture-Cure Processing
Product Description
Sikaflex®-232 US is a one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane adhesive and sealant for sealing and simple bonding in transportation, recreational vehicle, industrial assembly, and HVAC applications. Its thixotropic consistency, very good sag resistance, good gap-filling behavior, and high initial green strength support controlled application and help hold assembled parts before full cure. The white material bonds to commonly used substrates including metals, compatible metal primers and two-component paint coatings, fiber-reinforced plastic, and wood, subject to substrate-specific preparation and validation. The cured elastomer has a typical Shore A hardness of 40, tensile strength of 1.5 MPa, elongation at break of 500%, and a documented service-temperature range of −40°C to 90°C.
Key features
- High initial green strength: Supports part positioning and assembly handling before the moisture-curing process is complete.
- Thixotropic, non-sag consistency: Supports controlled bead application on vertical and overhead joints.
- Good gap-filling properties: Accommodates irregular bonding and sealing geometries when the joint is correctly designed.
- Flexible cured elastomer: Typical elongation at break is 500% under ASTM D412 test conditions.
- Paintable and sandable: May be overpainted after skin formation and mechanically finished after cure, subject to paint-system testing.
- Broad processing options: Can be dispensed using manual, pneumatic, or electrically driven piston guns.
Applications / Suitable for
- Trailer and recreational vehicle assembly and repair
- Industrial sealing and simple bonding
- HVAC unit assembly
- Bonding or sealing metals, coated metals, fiber-reinforced plastic, and wood after application-specific testing

Material and application characteristics
Surface preparation, bead application, and moisture cure
Sikaflex®-232 US cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture. Temperature and humidity affect application behavior, open time, and cure rate, so the complete process should be evaluated with the intended substrates, joint design, and manufacturing conditions.
Processing visual should show clean prepared substrates, triangular bead application, part assembly, and exposure of the joint to atmospheric moisture.
Store below 25°C. The documented shelf life is 9 months for cartridges and unipacks and 6 months for drums when stored under the stated conditions. Cure proceeds more slowly at low temperature because the moisture content of the air is generally lower.
Typical mechanical and service properties
The values shown are typical laboratory data and are not guaranteed specifications. Mechanical properties should be evaluated with the actual substrates, preparation method, bond geometry, cure conditions, and service environment.
| Exposure category | Sikaflex®-232 US behavior |
|---|---|
| Fresh water, seawater, diluted acids, and diluted caustic solutions | Generally resistant |
| Fuels, mineral oils, and vegetable or animal fats and oils | Temporarily resistant |
| Organic acids, glycolic alcohol, concentrated mineral acids, concentrated caustic solutions, and solvents | Not resistant |
